Evaluation

The first step in effective intervention is an individual assessment of speech, language, and/or feeding skills. Evaluation procedures are determined based on the client’s age and nature of concern or disorder.

Therapy

Individualized treatment is established to address the presenting symptoms or concerns of the communication or feeding problem. Vanessa commonly provides treatment in the following speech and language areas:

  • Speech (articulation/phonological disorders, apraxia, dysarthria, fluency, voice)

  • Language (receptive/expressive delays, literacy skills, pragmatics, aphasia)

  • Feeding therapy (including behavioral, sensory, and oral-motor)

Length and frequency of therapy sessions varies and is dependent upon the patient’s age and the presenting disorder.

Professional Services

In order to comprehensively address speech, language, and/or feeding needs, a collaborative approach is key. Referrals and consultations with other therapists, doctors, and family are an important aspect of treating the whole patient.

Parent, family, and professional education is vital for early identification of speech, language, and feeding difficulties. Vanessa offers on-site information sessions regarding speech, language, and feeding/oral-motor education.

Consultations and participation in Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), Individualized Education Plan (IEP), and/or Child Study Team (CST) meetings is available.
